Dresser With a French Accent

I made a few changes to a dresser that I had previously redone.

This is what I started out with. A plain brown dresser from Goodwill. (You can read about the original dresser redo here.)

The color actually wasn't too bad but the finish really needed some attention.

Here are the drawer fronts with the hardware removed.

I painted the body of the dresser in a Krylon silver metallic spray. In the sun it comes alive and just sparkles. (Similar to an emaciated vampire from a highly popular movie, only better.)

I sprayed the hardware silver to match the body of the dresser but painted the drawer fronts in Southern Breeze by Behr.

And here was the finished result.

I really liked it but thought that I could make it even better by adding a french twist.

I asked my friend, Crystal (otherwise known as my vinyl supplier supreme) to make me some vinyl french numbers in silver. I gave her the measurements I wanted but they ended up being visually too big. So I learned that when measuring for words, I need to make the size smaller than I think I need and then they will be perfect.

I love how it turned out. (The words read: one, two, three, four in French. No, I don't speak French although I did take one semester of the language in high school. I can count to ten and ask you what color your tennis racket is but that is about it. That being said, if I have misspelled any of the French words, please let me know before I embarrass myself any further...)

Four in French. (I think.)

I added shelf liner vinyl in a faux marble pattern to the drawers. BTW, each roll ONLY has enough coverage for two drawers--a little frustrating when you've only purchased one roll! (Those are Goodwill plates from my Easter post here.)

One more time. The before.

The after.

The after with a French accent. C'est magnifique!

  24. Tres Bon! This turned out great! As much as I like what folks are doing with white and black paints so often, nice to see something different and with a twist. I am keeping this in an idea file for a dresser I have to do.
    Well done!

  27. Ohhh, LOVE this! I have a very similar dresser and have been toying with many ideas on how to redo it's current white shabby chic paint job (which is turning yellow on top, not a good look). I WAS going to change out the hardware, which is original and still has its aged brass look, which I do not like. Silver, I like! This gives me some great inspiration!

Jumped over here from A2D link party, will be perusing your blog for a while, there are some great things here! I'm your newest follower!

    Best,

  29. WOW!!! Love it - totally different than most dresser redos which is what drew me to it! Totally fabulous. And WHY do you know how to ask what color my tennis racket is? I think knowing how to ask where the bathroom is might be handier.. haha!! But all I know is bonjour and not even sure I spelled it right, haha. Anyways, I'd love it if you'd link these up over at Trash 2 Treasure Tuesdays on Kammy's Korner! http://kammyskorner.blogspot.com/2011/12/trash-2-treasure-tuesdays-11.html
