Rabbit Fur, Confusing Art and a Headboard

I have been looking for the perfect headboard for my daughter's bed for a while now. I've had visions of finding a lovely vintage wooden style that I could paint and distress and make it look very feminine and sweet. My daughter's vision was something a little more modern. She wanted something soft that she could sit up against in bed and read. So I started planning on doing an upholstered headboard but couldn't decide on a style or fabric. All of a sudden inspiration hit. This white fabric called Bunny Fur was part of the inspiration.

And this odd purple canvas was the other part. This canvas had been living in my garage for the past year. Most of the time it was shoved behind the bikes gathering cobwebs. But this subjective piece of art didn't start out in my garage. It actually had a home (and a mate) in a house down the street. The gentlemen who lived in that home decided to move away and the pair of seizure inducing canvases ended up discarded by the curb near their garbage can. I spied them while I was out walking the dog. The frame on the other canvas was broken but on the kaleidoscope of purple canvas it was intact. Large canvases can be pricey so if my neighbors were getting rid of a perfectly decent canvas, then I was sure I would find a use for it. Even though it was by the trash can, I still had to get my courage up. I walked by their house a few times and casually looked around to see if anyone was looking. I then picked it up and tried my best not to break into a run back to my house.

Okay, so here it is almost a year later. (Was this design ever popular? Just asking.) My great idea was to cover the purple canvas WITH the bunny fabric and turn it into a headboard for my daughter's room.

This has to be one of the easiest headboard's to make. (And I'm all about easy. Headboards, that is...) I spread out the furry fabric face down on the floor and then outside I sprayed the front of the canvas with Krylon Spray Adhesive.

When I walked back into the house I could see that the cat had been helping wrinkling and folding the fabric. So I smoothed it out again and stuck the sticky side of the canvas onto the back of the fabric.

I then trimmed the excess fabric and stapled it around the edges.

Here is the back. (It was shedding like crazy!)

And the front. (It's wonderfully furry!)

The headboard is tall enough that she can comfortably sit up in bed to read her bible. (That's what teenage girls like to do in their free time, right?)

Once again, the stylish before.

And the practical after. (One of many new projects designated for this room.)

It looks a little flat in the picture but it actually is quite fluffy and met with my daughter's approval. Score one for Mom! (Recycling AND a happy child.)
