Fancy Bathroom Mirror

I've had it in my mind that I wanted a fancy scrolled mirror to go over the sink in my newly updated bathroom.

While I was on a trip in Arizona I spied the exact same mirror I had been envisioning at a little country swap meet.  It had a pile of books stacked upon it and was laying on a tarp in between some old work boots and a few dusty tools.  Even though it was the mirror I was looking for I didn't snatch it up right away as I started to have a few reservations.  I didn't know if it was big enough for the space over the sink and wondered if it might be a little too ornate next to the other mirror and patterned wall in the room.  The old song, Take a Chance On Me (by ABBA or some other artist of that era) kept playing in my head so I bargained with the generously bearded seller and decided to take a decorating chance with it.

Here is the bathroom currently.  I love the painted on pattern wall with the sunburst mirror.  (A Hobby Lobby purchase-half off.)

This was the bathroom before.  Affectionately know as the African Bathroom with it's painted feather duster walls of multiple shades of brown.

The mirror before went with the African safari theme but needed to be updated or replaced to exist cohesively with the rest of the new design.

After I brought it home in the back of the stuffed minivan, the ornate mirror needed a little freshening up.  I primed it with Kilz spray primer (the best primer ever!) and painted it with Krylon Gloss White.  I love how it turned out--just like new!

Even though the fancy mirror turned out great, I wasn't sure how it would look with the sunburst mirror.  (Would they get along?  Would I have to separate them?)

Moment of truth.  I love each element separately but together they seem a little...odd.  (Bummer!)

Each mirror needs to be the star in the room.  The sunburst mirror is definitely staying so the fancy mirror will have to find a home on another wall.  I'm not really too disappointed since decorating is all about trying new combinations to see what works and what moves you.  The mirror was quite cheap and I already had the primer and paint so it wasn't that big of an investment.  I still really like the fancy mirror and will find a use for it somewhere else in my home.  So I found out that I probably need a very plain mirror to coexist and not compete with the sunburst mirror.  No problem, I'll just add it to my ever growing list...

  1. Love the white mirror, it's so glam! I agree that the two mirrors don't love each other :)

  2. Both of these mirrors are beautiful in their own right. But, I agree, they don't really get along in that space. Glad you kept the sunburst in the room.
