30 Days of Gratitude (Day 19) Color.

I have a certain fondness for greys, whites, creams, blues, tans, subtle, neutral and tone on tone when decorating.  I generally favor more of a softer, soothing palette.  But every one in awhile I crave a little color--and sometimes a lot.  Bright color is playful, youthful, spunky and fun.  As children we tend to gravitate towards rich, bright colors.  Very few (if any) children would choose tan or gray as their favorites.  So somewhere along the way to adulthood many of us somehow lose our love of the brights in large doses.  I absolutely love bright pink and I've toyed with the idea many times to paint or upholster a piece of furniture in that fabulous color.  But in the end I always go with a neutral choice.  So instead I bring the pink in with flowers.  That way I can have a bright pop of color that isn't overwhelming.  So I guess that's my compromise, admire the bold color choices of others (like designer, Betsey Johnson) and just be happy with a pop here and there in my own home.

So today I'm thankful for color.  For the brightness it brings to our lives whether we embrace it wholeheartedly or choose to take it in smaller doses.
