30 Days of Gratitude (Day 29) Making Your Mark.

                                                                                                         (source)

Yesterday I was looking around the house and noticing all the items that had evidence of the four children living here. Gauges on furniture and window frames, marks on walls, names carved in furniture,  a burned area on a window sill where the child started a fire (after learning how at scout camp), the marks on the door frame measuring each childs' height and the hand prints on the wall in paint from when the kids were tiny.  (It actually sounds much worse than it looks.)   The kids aren't crazy hooligans running around--they're basically normal.  And to be fair, it's the two youngest boys who have inflicted the most wear and tear on the house.  So why haven't I filled in the gauges or covered the marks on the door frame yet?  All those marks are another living history of my children.

It made me think of making my mark in the world. The opportunity we each have to uniquely express who we are while we're busy with the sometimes mundane things of life.  It made me wonder which "marks" I'm making.  What evidence is there that I am here?

So today I'm thankful for having the opportunity of making my mark. For living intentionally.  And I'm thankful for the reminder that I can make a seemingly simple life a little grander.  (I just have to work at it.)

  1. Beautiful post! On the eve of your 30th 'Gratitude" post, I want to thank you for the reminders of how important it is to appreciate the little things! In my attempt to also live as authentically and simply as possible, it's those little things that now bring me the greatest joy - a hot cup of tea, a warm bath, a good book, music, a hug, love! Thanks!
