The Last Day of Christmas

I've mentioned before that in my family we celebrate Christmas the whole month of December and not just on the 25th.  This week I've been busy baking goodies for friends, giving gifts, hitting the after Christmas sales and making holiday decor for next year.

I finished making another ornament wreath.  This time I chose blue for the main color.

I used an 18 inch straw wreath form that I already had on hand.

I Purchased a number of half priced ornaments at the sales.  I prefer to use unbreakable ornaments since I have kids, pets and clumsy fingers.  The benefit of not using glass is that the wreath is more durable, ornaments are readily available and the cost can be much less than using glass (especially vintage.)  The benefits of using vintage glass ornaments are the beautiful layers of colors and no ornament seams.  The downside to using vintage glass is that finding the colors you want can be hit or miss, it can be expensive, and you may have to wait awhile until you've amassed enough ornaments to make the wreath.  The downside to the plastic is the ornament seam.

I just used a hot glue gun to attach the ornaments in a random pattern.  Another way is to glue the inside and outside rings with same size ornaments first.  That way the wreath is more symmetrical.  I prefer more of a random look myself as you can tell from the uneven sides.  (And from my pink ornament wreath.)

It funny how much the colors change when taking the picture indoors at night.  (It almost looks vintage.)

One of the last Christmas projects I'm working on today is a sheet music wreath with glittered letters.

I'm pleased how the ornament wreath turned out and I'm looking forward to (making more) decorating for Christmas next year.

Have a wonderful last day of Christmas!

  9. I love your ornament wreath. I tried that once but the tutorial I had said to string the ornaments on a wire hanger...it was a disaster...I will try hot glue next ;)
