Unusual Hotel Decor

It feels as though I haven't been home much in the last three weeks.  A lot of travel but not much in the way of home projects.  On Friday my 14 year old and I headed down to San Antonio for a soccer tournament.  The rest of the family had other plans for the weekend and stayed home.  It looked a little cloudy but otherwise okay when we arrived at the hotel.

Later on that night a massive storm passed through town.  (Of course.)  Great crashes of thunder and torrents of rain remained constant for most of the night.  (Well, it goes without saying that by morning it was announced that the whole tournament was canceled.)  Instead of leaving right away, the boys on the team wanted to hang out at the hotel for awhile and swim since we didn't have to check out of our room until noon.

So we ended up just hanging out at the snazzy hotel.  (This place had decor like no other.)  And I must say that the first thought that entered my head when we first arrived was, "Who decorated this place?"

The reception or check in desk was a large circular island topped by an overhead disc of recessed lights. (Spaceship, anyone?)  The wall design of giant blue bubbles reminded me of the generic wallpaper that comes standard on your computer.

All along the halls on the first floor the walls were adorned with a continuous wavy orange stripe of hard plastic.  (Just to give it some texture I suppose.)

The lobby lounge area consisted of two circular areas of furniture wrapped in sheer blue curtains.  (For privacy or ambiance?)

On the outside of the sheers were curtains of silver beads.  (So Chic!)

The matching chandeliers sported glowing pom poms with the same circular theme.  I forgot to take any pictures of our room.  It had more of a traditional hotel room look to it.  We had two beds plus a sectional sofa and desk.  I liked that there was a lot of storage in our room, too.  The toilet and shower were separated--each with their own sink which was great.  What wasn't great though was the frosted glass on both of the doors.  You could kind of see through them if the person got too close to the glass.  (It was especially fun with teenage boys running in and out of the rooms.)

The hotel was new and clean while the staff was efficient and friendly.  We had planned on playing a lot of soccer this weekend but ended up just staying in a hotel with unusual decor.

What are some of your hotel adventures?

(Check out my previous post on some other wacky hotels.)

  1. I stayed in a hotel that looked exactly like that in San Angelo...it was a weird lobby!
