I've Been Searching For an Armoire Like You.

Initially when I came across this photo a few months back I thought I was seeing an armoire behind the table.  Upon closer inspection I realized that it wasn't a beautiful blue vintage armoire I was seeing but a pair of French doors mounted on the wall.  I fell in love with the paint finish and started thinking of it as inspiration for my latest thrifty furniture find.

Let me introduce you to my newest love.  I found this ornately carved (in perfect condition) armoire at the Salvation Army last week.  My heart literally skipped a beat when I first laid eyes on this brown beauty.  Foreigner's song, "I've Been Waiting For a Girl Like You" began playing in my head (yes, I have theme songs for everything...) only I switched out the "girl" for "armoire."  I had been looking for a smallish armoire or wardrobe for my daughter's room for quite some time and lucked into finding this gorgeous piece.  The hardware was in perfect condition and the piece itself was very solid and well made.

I was so excited to see the inside drawers and solid wood instead of the typical broken out cardboard t.v. back.  I instantly began imagining it all fixed up and sitting stylishly in my home.

The wood is in great condition but I am dreaming of it with a painted finish and have been looking on Pinterest for inspiration.  Here is a bluish grey armoire painted with chalk paint by Miss Mustard Seed.  I like the way she highlighted the grooves in the piece.

This armoire is more of a distressed whitish grey.

Yes, I realize that this is not an armoire but I'm inspired by the beautiful color anyway.

So here is my "new" armoire.  It is no longer in the Salvation Army showroom but waiting patiently in my garage.  I'm still trying to decide on a paint color and finish.  I'm leaning towards a softer color that's lightly distressed.  I could leave it as is but I think painting it would do much more in highlighting all the curves and details.

Do you have any great ideas or suggestions for the armoire transformation?  Do tell.

  9. That is an amazing Salvation Army store find! I think it will look great painted a similar color to the ones you have pinned above. A light color like that will soften the look of it and take away the bulk feel of the armoire.
