Spring Mantel (Secondhand Style)

Spring is wonderful.  The singing of the birds, the blooming of the flowers and the styling of the DIYer's springtime mantel.  (It's one of the first signs of Spring for sure.)  This season I decided to go the simple route by reusing items I already had and creating a secondhand style.  With the exception of the paper and fabric, everything else on the mantel was was originally purchased from a thrift store.

I did a previous post on the pinwheel tree. (click here for tutorial)  The urn was found at Goodwill and then painted while the branches were gathered from my backyard.  The mini chalkboard was one of the first projects I did for Charming Zebra.  (click here for tutorial)  It was originally a picture frame also from Goodwill.

The cloche was another Goodwill find painted white.  (click here)  The glass blue bunny inside is actually a little dish with a lid from Salvation Army.  I also tucked one of my fabric rosettes inside.  (click here for tutorial)  I found a giant box of unused pink tapers at Goodwill a few months back. I was so excited when I saw them and snatched them up right away.  For this vignette,  I just threw a few of the candles into a metal garden bucket which was also a thrift store find.

The blue shutters were another Goodwill purchase which I painted twice and did some minor carpentry on.  (click here)  The mirror was formerly a part of my Silhouette mantel (click here) and originally found at a flea market in Arizona.  It's hanging with some leftover fabric from my Cutesy Spring wreath. So here is my recycled Springtime mantel.  Everything was originally secondhand but through the magic of paint, was given another design chance.

Have you painted anything lately?
