Creative Pet Beds (and a GIVEAWAY!)

                                                                           (Apartmenttherapy)
One of the favorite things of a Do-it-Yourselfer is to repurpose an old or unused item into something new.  So in celebration of National Pet Week, I'm featuring a few unique recycled beds made for our furry family members.

Is there anything that can't be made from a vintage suitcase?  Such a simple and cute idea to give your small pet's resting place a little character.  The sweet striped kitty seems to approve of the comfy bed giving it a thumbs (tail) up.

                                                                             (Craftzine)
I love the old timey soda crates.  How easy it is to just throw in a pillow.   Such a stylish place for Fido or Fifi to take a snooze.

                                                                        (Fried Okra)
What to do with Grandma's old t.v.?  How about transforming it into a cozy canine cave!  Just remove the innards so your precious pooch or cuddly cat can be the t.v. star they were always meant to be.

A pet that doesn't need a cute little bed is "Brownie", one of the animals I photographed while visiting my friend, Jennifer.  "Brownie" really isn't her name.  (I made it up because she is brown after all and looks as though she might enjoy eating a brownie or two.)

"Brownie" is one cow in a herd of many that belong to Jennifer's neighbor.  Their properties connect so the herd wanders around grazing between both farms.  There are many calves this Spring and they like to come right up to Jennifer's fence near her house.  The cows were congregating there about ten minutes before I arrived.  By the time I made it over to the fence, the herd had migrated back into the neighbor's barn for an afternoon nap.  "Brownie" (and her calf, "Cupcake") were the only ones still in the yard.  "Brownie" didn't care for me or my camera.  She ran back from the fence and then just stared at me with a less than friendly expression.  "Cupcake" was snoozing under a tree so "Brownie" just stood there standing guard.  (I took this photo with my long camera lens as I didn't want to get too close to the mama cow.)

Jennifer and her husband also have 3 goats.  They are a newer breed that don't produce wool but have fur like a dog.  They like to go on long walks and play Frisbee, too.  (Not really.)  They are very curious, though and came running up to me as soon as I arrived.  Jen's favorite goat is named Dot after the little dot on her nose.  She is also the friendliest (and nosiest) of the bunch.

Isn't this little fellow, cute?  (And no, Jen doesn't live on a monkey farm.)  This sweet little sock monkey may go home to live with you!  He is a pet toy for your delightful dog or cat and the GIVEAWAY for today.

You can win this precious primate by leaving a comment below from now until Thursday, May 10th at midnight. (Central standard time)  One commenter will be randomly chosen to receive this miniature monkey (9 inches tall) pet toy for the deserving pet in your life.

Also, don't forget to link up your pet posts to our Rockin' Pet Linky Party now going on in full swing!  I love seeing all the pictures of your sweet pets.

And be sure to swing on over to The House At Bluebird Lane for more party fun!  Sharla is a Rockin' Party co-host and is having a terrific GIVEAWAY today.

  11. That old TV cabinet would be showing my favorite critters to watch! I collect vintage suitcases, and I have to be careful not to close up a pet - they love these things.

  12. Do you have pets that are getting older or recovering from a medical procedure? Perhaps you have a young, healthy pet you just want to pamper. If you fall under any of these categories, a pet bed for your favorite pet is something that will make their lives much more enjoyable.
