Uncommon Objects

I often enjoy visiting thrift shops and antique stores.  It's especially fun to discover a new place to shop.  In the Fall/Winter issue of Flea Market Style magazine it mentiond (twice) a quirky antique store in Austin called Uncommon Objects.  I had never heard of it before and decided that I needed to check it out for myself.

I went in with high hopes.  (It was mentioned in a national magazine after all.)

The store did have a lot of interesting things as well as the typical items you would expect to find like chippy painted furniture and old crockery.  (I must apologize for the pictures.  The interior lights gave a yellowish cast and it was slightly dim inside.)

They did have some quirky collectibles.  The woman next to me excitedly pulled her husband over to a large display of owls where they both oohed and ahhed at their lucky find.

Plenty of vintage records for all those John Denver fans.

The requisite portrait with a dour expression.

Gorgeous chandeliers.

Decor styling tips.  (Yes, you CAN hang a chandelier next to your fluffy ram head.)

A great collection of taxidermy.  (This would look perfect in my guest bathroom.)

They showcased a large selection of beautiful jewelry.

I enjoyed looking at all the merchandise but thought things were a little pricey.  Another couple walked by me and I overheard the husband whisper to the wife that the prices were ridiculously low.  So I guess it's all relative.

This pretty much sums it up.

So if you have the occasion to be near South Congress in Austin, check out Uncommon Objects.  (Just look for the sign with the tiny cowboy sitting on a rabbit.)

I took this picture as I walked across South Congress Street.  This is the view to the left of the store.  You can see the state capital in the background.  (This photo has nothing to do with Uncommon Objects.  I just thought it was cool to take a picture in the middle of the street.)

  1. Too bad the price wasn't right on the disturbed women sign. THAT would be a great conversation piece anywhere in someone's home.
