Christmas Plates

I have been looking for a set of Christmas plates for the past few years.  No rush.  I just wanted a set that I liked which didn't cost a fortune.  Something simple with more of a vintage look to it.

This week while browsing through the aisles of Goodwill I came across a set that made me stop and pause.  It had Ironstone stamped on the back with the pattern name of Octagon Holiday and with just a basic Christmas tree print on the front.  The plates were an octagon shape with a bright red circle around the tree.

There were 6 dinner plates and 6 salad plates for $14.99.  As far as I could tell they were in great condition without any cracks or chips.  (Since Christmas dishes are used only seasonally it's easier to find them in better condition than every day dishes.)  To be honest, in the store I liked them but didn't really love them.  I decided to take a chance anyway and brought them home.  After washing them up I must admit that I was smitten.

I'm quite taken with them now and am looking forward to (actually excited about) setting the Christmas table this year with my new holiday plates.

What about you?  Any last minute Christmas finds?

  1. Your new dishes are amazing. They totally have a vintage-y feel to them. Very festive, yet stylish & decorative. Not always an easy thing to achieve. Great find!

  3. Love them with the silver charger. My mom gave me her Pfaltzgraff Christmas china, and it's very similar to this. When we were kids, my sister and I wouldn't let any food touch the santa ornament on the tree (on the graphic on the plate) for fear he wouldn't come to our house. My husband and I still do it. crazy kids.

  4. I really love those plates. I can't believe what a great deal you got on them. They are very cute. That was a good idea to shop at Goodwill for them. You saved alot of money and probably found something that is no longer available in stores. Score! Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting me too.

  5. Great find! Except for the shape which is really cool, they look like the ones I have. I like the red band so much better than green. I have never seen these, and I have been looking at Christmas plates a long long time!

Thanks for coming to my blog. I am now following you.

  6. Thanks for your blog lovin!!

I love your pink wreath. I do a lot of Christmas decoration shopping in the sales too!!

I've been looking for white plates at second hand stores so I can decorate them with my new black ceramic paint pens. I saw a blog where someone had written Christmas carols on the white plate, baked it to make it permanent and then used it as an underplate in their place setting.

I'm not sure when I'm going to get around to it though!
