Pink Ornament Wreath

Last year, I was the girl loading up her cart full of ornaments the day after Christmas.  I was grabbing every box of pink that I could find.  I had in my mind that I wanted to make a wreath for 2011 with shiny pink ornaments.  (The fact that none of my other Christmas decor was pink was beside the point.)

About a week ago I bought a straw wreath at Michaels and began hot gluing the ornaments (that I had stashed away last year) to the wreath form.  I ended up running out of glue sticks about 3/4 of the way through.  Slightly frustrating since it was too late to go back to the store that night.  Of course the unfinished wreath along with the glue gun and various ornaments ended up sitting on the kitchen table for almost a week before I got around to finishing it.  We just ate meals in shifts.  My family is used to having half finished projects around the house (unfortunately) since I usually have more than one thing going on at the same time.

So today I finally finished it.  It turned out even better than I envisioned.  Originally I was going to add a satin ribbon to the wreath but I'm liking it the way it is.

I decided to put an old window behind the wreath and set it on the kitchen hutch.  I looked for an extensive period of time to find the before picture of the window in my files but didn't have any luck.  The window was a Goodwill score last Spring for $4.99.  Someone had taken the vintage window and filled it with dry flowers and matted it.  There was a tag from the framer with a date of 1984.  (Back when dried flowers were all the rage.)  It took me over two hours trying to remove the lovely, itchy dried floral arrangement and paper that was fused to the frame.  (Quite a lot of fun!)  Anyway, the frame turned out great and I like the look of them paired together.

It's currently in my kitchen on top of my very white hutch.

I'm quite excited about it.  Would it be strange if I left it up for a few months?

I have made several wreaths and styrofoam was (to me) the easiest to glue the bulbs too.

  17. WOW!! If I could make that word any bigger, I SO would. I've seen all types of ornament wreaths, and yours is by far MY FAVORITE!!! I'd leave it up year-round, move it from room-to-room, snuggle with it at night. I love how you put the very new, sparkly wreath overtop of the old window. Your comment about how dried flowers were popular in the 80s made me chuckle. I'm skipping off to pin your wreath...everyone needs to see this! I may be the lady hoarding ornaments after christmas this year! Thanks for stopping by. Take care!
